Yoga originated in India over 5000 years ago
and has developed in many forms since this time. The word yoga means to
yoke or join, (re)uniting body, mind and spirit.
Hatha Yoga is the form of yoga that has become best known in the West
and includes the practice of yoga postures, breathing and meditation. Within
the Hatha Yoga tradition various methods and styles have evolved, such as
Iyengar and Vinyasa Flow (also known as Power Yoga).
The path of Hatha Yoga is inspired by a willingness to explore and to
develop the relationship between body and mind. Awareness and a process
of refinement develop over time through regular practice. Breath, consciousness
and stillness unfold. This kind of concentration opens up for a state of
clear perception, the ability to penetrate body and mind on deeper levels
and to discover unknown spaces. These qualities can be reflected in daily
life, channelling creativity and giving clarity of vision.
